The Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu says his administration has introduced digital and ICT learning in the state as the necessary equipment needed for its take off have arrived the state.
Governor Ikpeazu disclosed this while Speaking at the Abia Social media converge with the theme “Social media For Good Governance “held at the Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia.
According to him the new technology will take effect from the next academic session as a good number of teachers have been trained for the scheme.
The Governor said that Government has established continuing education center for the training and retraining of teachers with the assistance of an Australian based firm.
He commended Abia students and teachers for maintaining first position in WAEC for five consecutive years.
On the Health sector, Dr Ikpeazu said that Abia has one of the best mortality records on Covid 19 across Nigeria, adding that Abia is the only state in Nigeria with Tele-Health initiative which has helped immensely in attending to the health needs of Abians.
He restated that his greatest ambition is for Abians to have a life expectancy that is higher than the national average, even as his government is currently working on a state of the art mother and Child Hospital that will soon take off.
While disclosing that the Enyimba Shoe factory has concluded supplies for the Nigerian Railway Corporation, he added that it is also the official supplier of shoes to the Nigerian Correctional Services, stressing that the quality shoes produced in Aba can compete favourably with those made elsewhere.
The Governor noted that he has through constant promotion and training of made in Abia products restored the confidence of small scale manufacturers in Aba.
Speaking, the guest Speaker and Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity Femi Adesina said that as powerful as it is the social media can also be used to build or destroy and advised social media operators to deploy it for Developmental purposes rather than using it as an instrument to propagate hatred and disunity.
He advised that instead of using the social media as a tool to pull down a government, it should be used to set agenda for the government as well as serve the role of self-Development for the teeming users.
In his remarks, the Speaker Abia House of Assembly Chief Chinedum Orji expressed worry over the destructive criticism from social media operators and recommended that the social media be deployed for constructive purposes to aid Development.
The event which had in attendance Government functionaries including the Deputy Speaker Abia House of Assembly Chief Ifeanyi Uchendu, the SSG Mr Chris Ezem, the Chief of Staff to the Governor Dr ACB Agbazuere, Commissioner for information Chief John Okiyi Kalu featured special renditions by Abian born musicians including Bright Chimezie, J-MARTINS and xnel nwa Aba.
