The Special Adviser to the President on media and publicity Mr Femi Adesina has commended the state government for the choice of social media and governance as a topic for the social media summit holding at the Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia today.
Mr Adesina who is a guest speaker at the event gave the commendation in a Radio interview programme on arrival in the state stressed the need for people to use social media for national development rather than purveying fake news.
The Media Adviser to the president who described the menace of social media as a global phenomenon because of its accessibility through mobile phones called on all to always be conscious of what they post on social media.
He maintained that the traditional media has a responsibility to authenticate the information carried by the social media, pointing out that there is the need to ensure control through censorship to eliminate fake news.
Mr. Adesina who cited the role social media played in United States elections noted that it must be used for inherent good.
The presidential media Aide while commending the state government for the various road projects being commissioned noted that the essence of governance is to make a difference through touching lives positively.
