The State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging the executive to direct the Abia NEWMAP and the State Technical Committee to urgently take an on the spot assessment of some gully erosion sites in Ohafia South State Constituency with a view to providing solutions to the ecological challenge.
The resolution which was presented by the Speaker, Chief Chinedum Orji, followed a Matter of Urgent Public Importance by the Deputy Speaker and member representing Ohafia South State Constituency, Chief Ifeanyi Uchendu on some gully erosion sites which posed threat to lives and property.
The House also passed a motion moved by the member representing Bende South state constituency, Chief Emmanuel Ndubuisi calling on the National Identity Management Commission to establish more enrollment centres in the state to reduce transmission of covid- 19 which could arise due to the clustering of people at the few available registration centres .
Also during plenary, the State House of Assembly received and adopted the reports of its joint committee on Judiciary and Public Utilities on HAB 12: The Abia State Electric Power Authority and Power Stations Bill, 2019, and that of the Committee on NDDC, ASOPADEC and Petroleum Matters on the petition titled ” illegal excavation of crude oil, acts likely to cause breach of peace at oil palm plantation in the farmland traditionally known as Ife Umuololo Uzo Uturu in Igiri- Ukwu Autonomous Community in Ukwa West local Government Area.
Others were those of the committee on Industry, Science and Technology on HAB 24: The Abia State Industrial Cluster Establishment Bill, 2020 and that of the House Committee on Public Utilities on HAB 30: The Abia State Water and Sewage Sector Development Bill, 2020 which were all committed to the House Committee of the whole for further legislative action on a future legislative date.
Speaking under Personal explanation, the member representing Osisioma Ngwa North State constituency, Chief Kennedy Njoku appreciated the Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for the construction and recent commissioning of the 10 kilometers Aro – Umuejie – Umuene – Osokwa road which passed through his constituency describing it as the first since the current political dispensation while the member for Umuahia North State Constituency, Chief Kelechi Onuzurike expressed gratitude to God for adding one year to his life.
Our Assembly Correspondent Victor Ndukwe reports that the House also received a notice of a motion on the need to cede Abia State Polytechnic Aba and Abia State College of Education Technical Arochukwu to the Federal Government as sponsored by the Majority Leader, Mr Solomon Akpulonu and adjourned its plenary to reconvene today.
