Abia State House of Assembly/Enugu Electricity Distribution Company.

The State House of Assembly has called on the management of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC in the state to make good their promise of distributing and installing three thousand prepaid meters to electricity consumers in the state starting from this month.


The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Chief Chinedum Orji made the call at plenary during an interaction between the lawmakers, management of the EEDC and representatives of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission in the state.

Chief Orji challenged them on the maintenance of their installations across the state as a way of satisfying their customers as people in business.

He however added that before long, the House will re-invite them to evaluate the level at which they have kept to their promise to the people of the state.

Responding to questions by the Lawmakers, the Network Manager, EEDC, Umuahia Region, Mr. Ozoeze Onyebuchi acknowledged some of the lapses pointed out by the lawmakers and assured of the commitment of the EEDC to rehabilitate some of its substations in the State.

Mr. Onyebuchi assured that the distribution of 3000 prepaid meters in the state starting from this month with a target of additional over 10,000 before the end of the year.The state House of Assembly also passed HAB 39: A Bill for a law to establish Guidelines for the management of funds of the Abia State House of Assembly and for other related matters as well as HAB 42: A Bill for a law to establish Guidelines for the management of the funds of Abia State Judiciary and for other related matters.

Speaking while announcing the passage into law of the bills, the Speaker, Chief Chinedum Orji said, when assented to, the bills would be deemed to have come into law on the 5th day of July, 2021.

The House received a petition from one Mr. God’s will Samuel through his lawyer with title “Complaints of exploitation, intimidation and deceit by the executive Chairman of Aba North Local Government Area” and Committed same to its Committee on Judiciary while another petition titled ” Letter of protest: unethical intimidating conducts and repressive measures meted against me by a lawyer – Chidozie Ogunji sent to the House by one Mr. Ikenna Madubuike through his lawyers was also received and Committed to the House Committee on Public Petitions to investigate and report back to the House.
