The Governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has described Abia as a vanguard of Social Investment Program Implementation in Nigeria.

Governor Ikpeazu who made the remark during the distribution of letters of engagement and tablets to trained Independent Monitors of the SIPs as well as flag-off of the enumeration of the Homegrown School Feeding Program held at Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia expressed appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development for its intervention during the covid-19 lockdown.

The Governor represented by the Secretary to the State Government Mr Chris Ezem noted that state received a lot of items and support which were judiciously utilized for the beneficiaries and charged the independent monitors to see the task as opportunity to participate in governance and platform to showcase their talents.

In her address the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

Hajia Umar Farouk represented by a Director in the Ministry Chief Ralph Obi explained that the job of the monitors will help them know the challenges and how to improve the scheme and advised the recipients to exhibit sense of patriotism and responsibility in their work.

Earlier, the State Focal Person on Social Investment Mr. Chinenye Nwogu who described monitoring and evaluation as key components of the program noted that the trained independent monitors were carefully selected to ensure that government gets value for the money it spent on the SIPs and thanked the Governor for his robust political support towards the sustenance of the programs.

The program which featured handing over of the engagement letters and mobile device tablets equipped with the relevant applications for the job by the representative of the Governor and the minister, speech from the State director NOA Dr. Mrs Ngozi Okechukwu attracted the presence key stakeholders and partners in the social investment program.
