Members of Gender and Constitutional Reform Network have been lauded for their efforts in ensuring that the interest of women are protected.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Chris Ezem, who made the commendation in his Office when he received the executive members of the group who paid him a courtesy visit, said the present administration is gender sensitive and has accommodated women in governance, pointing out that currently, sixteen women are Secretaries of Local Government Areas.
Mr. Ezem pointed out that females were among the recently appointed permanent secretaries in the state and encouraged the group to sensitize women on the need for them to purchase forms and vie for elective positions of their choice during elections.
He regretted that some women today take hard drugs and also engage in cultism and appealed to the team to use their offices to intimate women on the dangers associated with such acts and other social vices for a better society. Speaking, the Coordinator, Gender and Constitutional Reform, Abia State, Lady Ugo Kalu who said they came to intimate the SSG of the objectives of the Association explained that there are areas of the constitution that women are neglected, as well as other harmful traditional practices, being meted out against women and appealed to government to assist them in their missions
