Acquisition of Skills over the years has played significant role in tackling the issue of unemployment among the youth especially in developing nations.
It was in recognition of the role skills acquisition though technical and vocational education plays in addressing the issue of unemployment and youth restiveness that the United Nations General Assembly in 2014 designated the commemoration of World Youth Skills Day to encourage member States to invest heavily in youth skills development by encouraging technical and vocational education and also as a strategy to tackle youth unemployment.
The issue of lack of skilled manpower is still a matter of concern in most developing nations including Nigeria where unemployment especially among the youth is in alarming condition.
A reliable statistics shows that the number of unemployed youths have increased globally following the outbreak of Covid-19panedmic which led to loss of jobs.
This year’s celebration with the Theme: REIMAGING YOUTH SKILLS POST PANDEMIC’’ celebrates the resilience and creativity of the youth throughout the crisis.
