The Deputy Governor Sir Ude Oko Chukwu has called on stakeholders of Nigerian Correctional Service and the Judiciary to hasten up action on the process of judicial proceedings of Inmates for quick dispensation of justice and decongestion of awaiting trial Inmates.
Sir Oko Chukwu who made the call when the Controller, Correctional Service, Abia State Command, Mr. Kalu Uche and his key Officials paid him a courtesy visit at Government House Umuahia, stressed the need for the Service to effect positive changes in the Inmates before reintegrating them into the society.
The Deputy Governor reassured the State Correctional Service that Government will continue to partner them and other Federal establishments in the State to enable them perform optimally and disclosed that Government’s modest contributions in mounting security towers across the State to protect Government establishments have greatly helped to frustrate efforts of hoodlums .
He expressed delight that some of the Inmates are pursuing their academics and other skills that will enable them become useful to the society and urged them to list their needs to Government for necessary assistance.
In his speech, the State Controller, Correctional Service, Abia State Command, Mr. Kalu Uche appreciated Government for the transformation going on in the State and support for the Correctional Services through the setting up of security towers at Umuahia and Aba to enable them forestall any security breach
Mr. Uche solicited Government’s intervention in repairing damaged cells and facilities destroyed during the End SARS Protest and unknown Gunmen fracas.
