The Governor Dr Okezie lkpeazu has inaugurated the State Road Safety Advisory Council SARSAC with a charge to ensure adequate coordination between States and Local Governments in achieving Safety targets.
Speaking while inaugurating the eleven man Council members which has his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu as its Chairman at Government House Umuahia, Dr lkpeazu said the inauguration has become necessary having recognized the importance the Federal and State Governments attach to the protection of lives and property as it affects transportation, negligence on the part of motorists in order to minimize the high rate of road accidents and loss of lives of citizens.
The Governor represented by his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu further disclosed that the inauguration is aimed at assisting the Road Safety Corps to actualize the objectives of their existence and set State Road Safety Strategy targets in line with the Nigerian Road Safety Strategy (NRSS) as well as drive its implementation.
He named other key responsibilities of the State Road Safety Advisory Council to include invitation of relevant agencies to defend proposed activities and road Safety efforts on a quarterly basis, evaluation of the outcome of the National road safety initiatives, development of a founding plan for progress reports from relevant agencies as well as ensure adequate representation of the State at the national Technical working Group .
Responding on behalf of other Council members, the Secretary of the State Road Safety Advisory Council and Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr. Paul Ugwu thanked Government for finding them worthy to be of service in their various capacities and promised to assiduously represent the State positively.
