The Association for Fertility and Reproductive Health of Nigeria (AFRH) under the aegis of medical Doctors have pledged their commitment to checkmate the nefarious activities of quacks who are exploiting the unavailability of extant laws and regulations to defraud unsuspecting members of the public, especially, couples seeking for the fruits of the womb.
The immediate past President of the Association for Fertility and Reproductive Health of Nigeria (AFRH), Dr. Faye Iketubosun, who gave the assurance at the symposium to mark the official opening of Life Point Fertility Centre, Aba, said the Association is currently working with the National Assembly to enact law to regulate the practice and protect fertility patients from extortion and malpractice by quacks feeding fat on the people’s ignorance.
The former AFRH president who was represented at the event by Dr. Preye Feibai, a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, and the Association’s first vice president, stated that infertility exposed women to psychological trauma .
In his keynote lecture titled, “The fight against infertility in Africa: a call for collaboration”, the eminent Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Dr lketubosun observed that the incidence of infertility in Nigeria required urgent attention and collaboration of all stakeholders to flush out fake medical Doctors in their midst adding that they will no longer need to refer infertility patients to other cities in Nigeria with opening of the life point fertility center in Aba.
In his own remarks, the Medical Director of Life Point Fertility Centre, Aba, Dr. Okechukwu Kalu, a Consultant Obstetrician/Gynaecologist who specialized in fertility and reproductive health, explained that he delved into the reproductive health services after seeing the need to run what he termed “a ministry that would give hope and life to child-desiring women.
