The Secretary to the State Government Mr. Chris Ezem has commended the founder VONHERA Foundation Mrs. Rosemary Asiegbu for empowering widows in Umuahia South Local Government Area through agriculture.
Mr. Ezem represented by Mr. Francis Ejim made the commendation during the distribution of four hundred bags of fertilizers, improved maize seedlings and wrappers to over one thousand widows in Umuahia South Local Government Area by the VONHERA Foundation and noted that the state will be the food basket of Nigeria if Abians tow the line of Mrs. Rosemary Asiegbu.
Also speaking, the chairman on the occasion Chief Tony Ukasanya said the gesture exhibited by Mrs. Asiegbu will help to make Umuahia South a foremost food producing Area in the state and urged the widows to judiciously use the farm inputs to better their lives.
In his remarks, the CEO of Golden Guinea PLC Chief Okey Nzenwa who is the co-sponsor of the event tagged “widows in Agriculture” said the Golden Guinea Breweries will continue to partner VONHERA Foundation in empowering widows across the state and beyond.
In an address, the founder of VONHERA Foundation, Mrs. Rosemary Asiegbu said the gesture was borne out of the vision to empower and improve the self-confidence and standard of living of widows disclosing that the foundation had successfully distributed improved cassava stems, Oba super 6 Maize, Coconut seedlings and several bags of fertilizers to widows since its inception in 2018.
In an Interview, some of the beneficiaries including Margret Mmeribe, Josephine Ahamba and Mercy Ochomma thanked the VONHERA Foundation for the gesture and prayed God to reward them.
Highpoints of the ceremony were health talk on management of High blood pressure, lecture on fertilizer application, Inspirational talk by the Rev. Father Benjamin Onyemachi, among others.
