Monthly sanitation exercise witnessed appreciable turnout of people in Umuahia metropolis.

BCA Correspondent, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, who monitored the exercise reports that people were seen in all the areas visited scooping gutters and cleaning up their surroundings with adequate tippers deployed to cart away the debris.

Speaking while monitoring the exercise, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Mr. Iheanyichukwu Ubani, enjoined people to own        the exercise by participating actively as well as ensuring that their environments are kept clean at all times.

The Permanent Secretary who spoke through his Director, Pollution Control and Environmental Health, Dr. Ikechukwu Ukaegbu, disclosed that the Ministry has concluded plans to arrest and prosecute those channeling their septic tank into public drain and fast food operators’ discharging their waste on the public drainage.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Umuahia North Local Government, Mr. Ugochukwu Njinkonye and Leader of the Council, Mr. Peter Iroegbu, described clean environment as panacea for healthy living and encouraged the people of Umuahia North Local Government Area to be conscious of their environment and ensure that they dispose their waste properly to assist the efforts of the State Government in sustaining the cleanliness of the State.
