International Football Club of Aba have said that they are aware of publication on The Cable website titled “The Insider: Enyimba in a mess, match bonuses not paid since Feb 2020”.
A release endorsed by the Chairman Chief Felix Anyansi Agwu described the article, written by one Remi Sulola as an intolerable slander on not only Enyimba FC, but the State Government and categorically called on The Cable to immediately withdraw the fabricated statements contained within the said publication.
The release described as false, that the state government has starved Enyimba, Nigeria’s most successful club side, of funds in the past year adding that for a club that enjoys total support from the government of the State, led by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu it finds the statement bewildering.
It disclosed that the State Government has always supported football which is why Enyimba remains the most successful club in the country today as well as paid salaries up to date while bonuses are paid regularly.
It further revealed that only this past week, the same government chartered a plane for the team to Libya and back while describing it as the action of a passionate and committed government and not one that ‘starves Enyimba.
The release also reflected that Governor Ikpeazu’s example of passion for Enyimba was in the play-off rounds of the CAF Confederation Cup, when he handed $10,000 dollars to the team after their win against Rivers United in Aba and another N10m after they defeated Rivers United in the return fixture in Port Harcourt, including the revamped stadium and improved welfare. It said that the club will not accept any further attack on the office of the Governor or the Governor himself and demanded for an end to the defamation of character of a Government that has helped Enyimba represent Nigeria.
The release added that Nigeria have a team on the continent today is due to the spirited and timely endeavour of the Government of Dr. Ikpeazu, stressing that the reckless lies are therefore inexcusable.
The release disclosed that Enyimba Football Club, has a reputation for prompt payment of salaries and bonuses adding that Where there are factors beyond their control that delay the payments, they move mountains to ensure they are resolved in a timely fashion so that players and officials are paid. It further described the shameful article that cited unnamed sources within the club for the dreadful lies it is spinning as an attempt to derail their progress, as Enyimba are the only Nigerian club left on the continent but assured that they will resist it and focus on the task ahead.
