The Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Planning, Sir Francis Onwuchuruba has called on Professional Associations in the State to emulate the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, Abia State Chapter, who are in the vanguard of ensuring the State remains the best in the country.

Sir Onwuchuruba who made this commendation while receiving a delegation of the Executive and ex-Executive of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, Abia State Chapter who paid him a courtesy visit in his office, assured the delegation of the resolve of the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Urban Planning, to tackle some of the challenges facing the Institute.

Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Lands, Survey and Urban Planning, Mr. Ikechi Bestman, while appreciating the Institute for working seamlessly with the Ministry to improve on the Town Planning Industry, in the state, recalled some of the achievements of Governor Ikpeazu.

He listed the achievements to include the engagement of United Nation’s Habitat to plan the three cities of Aba, Umuahia and Ohafia, empowering the Town Planning Authorities in the State, sponsorship of vital legislations and interventionist projects, and tasked the Institute on embarking on advocacy and sensitization projects to enlighten Abians on their functions and activities. 

In an address, the Chairman of Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, Mr. Stephen Nwazue, enumerated some of their achievements to include cordial relationship existing between the Institute and the Ministry resulting in the ease of doing business, increased revenue to the State’s Internally Generated Revenue, enhanced advocacy of their activities and restructuring the built-up industry while enumerating some of their challenges.

In a vote of thanks, the Vice Chairman and Executive Secretary, Osisioma Ngwa Town Planning Authority, Mr. Okezie Ahuruonye, lauded Governor Ikpeazu for appointing their experienced colleague, Mr. Ikechi Bestman, as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and commended the relationship existing between the Commissioner and Permanent Secretary.

Some of the events that marked the courtesy visit include prayer session led by the Executive Secretary of Obingwa Local Government Area Town Planning Authority, Constance Ekwuribe, gifts, and goodwill messages.
