Hypertension is a condition called high blood pressure, during which the arterial blood pressure raises to high level from the round level of one hundred and twenty.

The commemoration of the day which began in 2005 by the World Hypertension League, is a global effort towards mobilizing resources in tackling the disease.

It was in concerted efforts to check the deaths arising from Hypertension that the world health organization called for increased sensitization about the disease which they described as the leading cause of cardiovascular mortality.

A reliable statistics shows that more than 50% of the population who are hypertensive are unaware of their condition while over 1.5 billion people are currently living with hypertension.

According to Dr Okwuonu some hypertension are hereditary while some are cause by drugs consumption, chemically prepared food and obesity.
