TAEKWONDO.

The Acting State Director of Sports, Mr. Christian Ejinwa, has encouraged the State Taekwondo athletes to use the opportunity of the Maiden State Taekwondo Championship to improve their skills and abilities for upcoming local and international competitions.


Mr. Ejinwa who made this known during the opening of the State Taekwondo Championship at the Umuahia Township Stadium, commended Board members of the sport headed by bronze winner at Beijing 2008 Olympics, Chika Chukwumerije for putting together the program to support the athletes.


The Acting State Director of sports while assuring of government’s continued support to the growth of Taekwondo and other sports, encouraged individuals and organizations to align with the efforts of government in encouraging and building the talents in youths through sports.


In her speech before the competition, the State Secretary of Taekwondo Association, Mrs. Grace Idika, the State Taekwondo Coach, Chinasa Okoji and a board member, Dr. Okechi Onwuka disclosed that Taekwondo has consistently won medals for the state as Abia is blessed with abundant talents.


According to them, such a competition which is made possible by the board led by Chika Chukwumerije brings the athletes together not only to horn their skills, but also create more awareness and called on individuals and the corporate world to support the efforts of government and the board in terms of sponsorship.
