The House of Assembly yesterday during plenary unanimously voted in support of Financial Autonomy for Local Governments, State Houses of Assembly and State Judiciaries as contained in the ongoing fifth alteration of the 1999 Constitution.
The House gave the unanimous vote as part of consideration for HAB57; the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (fifth alteration) Bill, 2022.
Dropping the gravel in support of the amendment in section number one to section number 22 of the fifth alteration as considered in the plenary, the Speaker State House of Assembly Chief Chinedum Orji, said the amendments sought in all considered 22 sections of the fifth alteration of the 1999 constitution were proper and well in place.
He said that the House has thrown its support in favour of the considered sections of the alteration because it firmly believed that the development will deepen democracy in the country.
Also speaking on the alteration, sponsor of the bill and majority leader of the House, Mr. Solomon Akpulonu, said the bill which is for a law to provide for the fifth alteration of the 1999 constitution HAB57, contains on the whole 65 sections for amendment.
He stated that the House would go ahead to consider remaining sections of the bill in its subsequent sittings.
The House adjourned to reconvene today by ten 0’clock this morning.
