Members of the State Farmers – Herdsmen Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee have been lauded for their efforts in promotion of peace and security in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr. Chris Ezem who stated this during a meeting with members of the Abia State Farmers – Herdsmen Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee said their commitment, dedication and steadfastness had contributed in no small measure to the relative peace and harmony witnessed in the state and urged them not to relent.
Mr. Ezem assured them of the continuous support of government and advised them to liaise with the Local Government Chairmen to review activities of farmers and herdsmen in the various Local Government Areas in order to sustain peaceful environment in and around their areas, adding that their request will be made known to the Governor.
Speaking earlier, the Commissioner of Police and Chairman of the Committee, Mrs. Janet Agbede represented by the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Captain Awa Udonsi (rtd), said that the essence of the visit was to intimate him with the programmes and activities of the committee.
The Chairman of the Committee disclosed that security sensitization programme will be organized in all the seventeen Local Government Areas of the state to enlighten farmers and identify real herders which will lead to eliminate clashes among farmers and herdsmen and appealed for government’s support in the provision of logistics.
The meeting which attracted the presence of the Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Aham Uko and that of Homeland Security, Mr. Sopuruchi Bekee, featured presentation of documents to the Secretary to the State Government.
