The State Government has given the owner of the three storey building that partly collapsed at Ahiaeke Ndume Ibeku one week to come for controlled demolition of the building or face government’s action.
The Commissioner for Lands survey and Development, DrChidi Onwuchuruba who gave the ultimatum when he paid an unscheduled visit to the site, thanked God that no life was lost .
The Commissioner warnedthat if the owner of the building does not show up after one week, government would fish him out, pointing out that the state Government will henceforth move against those who embark on development without recourse to professional advice from Umuahia Capital Development Authority,UCDA.
Dr. Onwuchuruba wondered why a developer will change the original purpose and design of a structure, and go ahead with development without properly consulting with the UCDA and blamed the collapse to structural defects.
Also speaking the General Manager UCDA Chief Enyinnaya Nwokanta said that the structure has been sealed off, to prevent people from accessing the collapsed building as it posesdanger to people around.
Chief Nwokanta encouraged developers to always seek professional, advice to forestall the consequences that result from collapse buildings.
