The Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR Abia State Chapter, – Sir Anyaso Anyaso has called on Public Relations Practitioners to support and continue to project the developmental activities of the Dr Okezie Ikpeazu administration
Sir Anyaso who made the call when he led executive and members of the Institute on a courtesy call to the Rector Abia State Polytechnic Aba – Prof Okorie Osonwa in his office, urged the Mass Communication Students of the Polytechnic to leverage on the student membership arm of the Institute to become effective Public Relations Practitioners in the future.
The State Chairman of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations stated that the Institute will always be in the forefront of the fight against quackery in the profession including those teaching and practicing without due registration.
Sir Anyaso who is also the Director General of the BCA, assured that the Institute would not relent in its role to build, and manage reputation, noting that eminent personalities in society are members of the Institute.
The NIPR State Chairman on behalf of the National President of the Association, Mallam Muktar Sirajo commended the Rector for his avowed commitment to repositioning the Polytechnic through the projects he had embarked upon.
Responding, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof Okorie Osonwa expressed delight with the visit and called for a partnership with the professional body in the areas of projecting the institution in a good light, especially as it is diversifying its revenue windows.
Prof Osonwa who noted that the Polytechnic is poised to produce manpower that will help build the economy of the State, disclosed that their students are inventing electrical and Technical products which have distinguished them in various competitions and thanked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for his financial support that led to the successful accreditation of its courses including the Engineering and Mass Communication Departments.
He assured that the Mass Communication Students of the Polytechnic will become members of the body and encouraged the State Chapter of NIPR not to relent in its role of sensitizing the public in this democratic dispensation as well as eliminate quacks in the profession.
In their separate votes of thanks, a member of the Institute – Comrade Chinkwe Ikenyi and the Registrar of the Polytechnic – Mr Chinyere Oriaku said the familiarization visit would ensure greater synergy that will benefit both parties and thanked God for a successful partnership.
BCA Aba zonal Correspondent, Chinyere Francis Anyaogu reports that the NIPR team later took a facility tour of Enyimba Studio of the Polytechnic and held their meeting with a keynote lecture entitled “Unbundling of Mass Communication; a challenge to Public Relations Practitioners” delivered by Prof Uwaoma Uche.
