NIGERIA FOR WOMEN PROJECT (NFWP) HONOURS ABIA STATE FIRST LADY AND OTHERS.

The State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with the Nigeria for Women project, NFWP, has inaugurated and honoured the ‘’State and Local Government Area Project Champions for their contributions towards the success of the Project in the State.

Speaking shortly after receiving the award of ‘’Grand Project Champion’’, the wife of the Governor, Dr. Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu represented by a former Commissioner for Women Affairs in the State, Lady Chinedu Brown, appreciated the Nigeria For Women Project for including Abia to benefit from the project and called for the extension of the programme to the seventeen Local Government Areas.

She further urged the beneficiaries of the programme to make good use of the project.

Also speaking, the State project Co-ordiantor, Nigeria For Women project, Mrs. Georgenia Agbagha, noted that the project which is World bank assisted is aimed at improving the livelihood of women is now in three Local Government Areas representing the three Senatorial Zones in the State, while thanking the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for paying the counterpart fund for the project.

In her speech, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Deaconess Nna-Rose Urenta who described the project as an innovative way of solving problems facing women, thanked the Governor and the State Steering Committee for their commitment towards the realization of the project and urged beneficiaries to ensure judicious utilization of the fund.

In their contributions, the traditional Rulers from the three Senatorial Zones including Eze Arunsi Uka, Eze John Ogbanu and Eze Nwachukwu, stressed the importance of empowering women and advised the state Government not to relent in prioritizing the affairs of the women.

Some beneficiaries including, Mrs. Love Otuka, Ngozi Igbokwe as well as Chinebikpe Jude, thanked the Ministry and the organizers of the programme, promising to utilize the opportunity.

Highlight of the event was the issuance of Certificate of Excellence to notable personalities who contributed to the success of the programme.
