The Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has identified accurate census as fundamental in provision of social and economic amenities for the people and in making meaningful projections for the future.
Governor Ikpeazu who stated this while addressing the Abia State Population Committee and Abia State Federal Commissioner, National Population Committee who paid him a courtesy visit at his country home, Umuobiakwa stressed the need for accurate census in Nigeria.
The State Chief Executive who congratulated the members of the State Census Committee assured them of all necessary support to enable them facilitate the work of National Population Commission both in the trial census and the census proper.
Speaking earlier, Abia State Coordinator Census Committee and former Deputy Governor Chief Acho Nwakanma thanked the Governor for the confidence reposed in them and assured that they will fill all necessary gaps and ensure accurate population figure for Abia State.
Contributing, the Abia State Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission chief Johnny Nwabuisi thanked the Governor Ikpeazu for constituting a census committee made up of people with integrity.
He disclosed that they are currently embarking on sensitization for the trial census which will hold in nine Local Government Areas including Obingwa and Umuahia North, adding that the exercise will afford them the opportunity to test run their equipment as they had gone digital.
