The Infrastructural development of the state particularly in Aba, under the administration of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has assumed a higher dimension with the erection of Round abouts, Monuments, and traffic lights aimed at bringing sanity on the roads.

In this special report, Correspondent Chinyere Francis Anyaogu takes a look at the essence of these developmental strides in the socio-economic lives of the citizens.

The erection of Roundabouts, Monuments, traffic lights and streetlights mostly at the newly constructed roads of Opobo junction, Osisioma fly over, MCC road, Okigwe road, Azikiwe and many others have become a strategic measure by the Dr Okezie Ikpeazu administration to upgrade the status of the commercial city as well as instil discipline into the road users.

These roads were hitherto known with traffic jams especially during the rush hours in the morning and evening leading to careless and reckless driving by motorists who will be meandering to beat the unconducive condition.

To handle the situation, special and regular Marshals of the Federal Road Safety Corps, traffic Wardens, the police and TIMASS officials among others were always seen at these locations, trying to control the traffic.

But just recently, the Dr Ikpeazu administration started building directional projects including the Roundabout adorned with Monuments that depict what the city stands for.

Also, there are installations of functional Street and traffic lights that not only beautify these roads but save the security officials the stress of controlling the traffic.

The State Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, Steve Nwazue said these features will be capture in the Master plan of the state to give a standard nature of a city even as the process of producing the state master plan with the UN Habitat team is still progress.

A former chairman, Aba North Traditional Rulers Council – Eze Love Wogu and Chief Seth Agomuo who have lived in the ancient town of Aba revealed that the night lives of the city will be restored as well as reduce crimes.

A cross section of the road users including Mr. Patrick Inyang and Mr. Ngozi Ezebuiro said the citizens have beginning to exhibit discipline while on the road leading to orderliness.

Indeed, the aesthetics of Aba is gradually returning with its guaranteed security and it is expected that everyone will join hands to ensure adequate protection of these Infrastructure due to their benefits.
