SUG PRESIDENTS

The Coalition of Authentic Students Union Leders of Higher Institutions in the State, have expressed confidence that the six-man Committee setup by the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu will unravel how the funds duly released to the Abia State polytechnic, Aba, were spent.

In a press statement jointly endorsed by the SUG Presidents of the eight Higher Institutions in the State and read by the SUG President, Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Comrade Stanley Nwankpa, and the Student leaders said this is in addition to seeing to the restoration of the lost accreditation of the Polytechnic by the National Board for Technical Education.

They noted with sadness, the statement made by the head, Media Department and National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, Fatima Abubakar, that the accreditation for Abia Polytechnic was withdrawn on account of salary related issues.

They said as stakeholders in the Education Sector and leaders of the students’ community, they have swiftly engaged all stakeholders to inquire the real position of the things regarding reasons the impasse has degenerated to denial of accreditation to Abia State Polytechnic Aba.

The student leaders who passed a Vote of implicit confidence on Governor Ikpeazu for prioritizing quality education in the state, condemned moves by some sections of the political class to politicize the current development of the Polytechnic to de-market the State.

The students expressed shock and sadness that in spite of the huge financial investments of a cumulative sum of over 7. 1 Billion Naira as monthly subvention and Loan Pay-Offs by the State Government under Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu in favor of Abia State Polytechnic from July 2015 to May 2022 together with the enormous Internally Generated Revenue accruing to the Polytechnic, the board and management of the polytechnic failed to put the funds to judicious use.

The Student Leaders called on their fellow students to eschew all incitements and disregard the purported Press Conference of some impostors masquerading as students as none of the funny characters belong to any recognized Executive of the Students Union Government of any Institution in Abia.

The body further, encouraged Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to sustain his unflinching love and support to Abia students as well as for the development of Education in the State.
