President Muhammadu Buhari has joined millions of Sports loving Nigerians to congratulate Tobi Amusan for winning the Women’s one hundred meters hurdles gold for Nigeria at the World Athletics Championship 2022 in Oregon USA.
In a statement today through his special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, President Buhari equally celebrated the twenty-five years old for setting a new World Record in the semi-finals of the athletic event and for becoming the first Nigerian to win a world championship.
The President also praised Ese Brume for representing Nigeria with honour and pride and winning a silver medal in the Women’s long jump event while praising the entire team Nigeria for displaying courage, integrity and good sportsmanship at the World, proving that with hard work and determination, success is achievable.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s U-19 representatives at the 2022 International Table Tennis Federation Africa Youth Championships secured their slot at the world youth championships after beating Egypt 3-1 in the final of the team event last weekend.
The win helped Nigeria halt the dominance of Egypt in the team event of the 2022 International Table Tennis federation ITTF Africa youth championship[s as Taiwo Mati became the hero for Nigeria at the expense of the North Africans.
Correspondent Francis Nwaubani reports that the continental youth championships are making a return since the last edition held in Accra, Ghana in 2019 following Covid-19 pandemic with Tunis hosting some of the best young stars in Africa.
