GOVERNOR IKPEAZU REITERATES COMMITMENT TO THE WELFARE OF ABSU STAFF.

The Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has charged the new governing council of Abia State University to maintain the growth and development of the university as it occupies an important place in the comity of universities in Nigeria.

The Governor who stated this while reconstituting the governing council which has Chief Mba Ukariwe as the Pro-Chancellor and chairman of the governing council, recalled that the ranking of the institution grew from 97th to 26th position in the country as well as the second best state university in Nigeria, adding that it recently won an award from Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

He said that the sterling performance of the tertiary institution can only be sustained if students remain on campus and disclosed that his administration recently released the sum of Two hundred Million Naira to the institution while an additional one hundred and fifty million Naira would be released in the next few days to support the university in the payment of three months salary.

According to him, his government has also taken steps to control security around Uturu and urged Uturu and the university communities to support government’s effort in that regard.

The State Chief Executive who expressed optimism that the institution would return to its former glory under the new council maintained that his government is committed to staff welfare through regular release of subventions.

While congratulating the Pro Chancellor and members of the council on their appointments, Governor Ikpeazu urged them to work as a team to harness other sources of income for the citadel of learning as they cannot rely only on government subvention.        

Responding on behalf of the members, the pro chancellor and chairman of the council, Chief Mba Okoronkwo Ukariwe thanked the Governor for the confidence reposed in them and assured that they would restore normalcy in the university.

Other members of the reconstituted council include Chief Obinna Njoku, Chief Chibuike Nwokeukwu, Deaconess Precious Achumba, Chief Ndukwu Ndukwu, Eze Ogbonnaya Uwadiegwu, Mr. Nwaro Offor, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Mr. Eze Ajuzie and Management team of the institution.

Our Government House Correspondent, Ezechukwu Adimoha reports that the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Okochukwu, members of the state executive council and other top government officials witnessed the inauguration.
