The State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has promised to release ten million Naira to support Dr. Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu’s micro credit empowerment programme for indigent women in the State.
Governor Ikpeazu who made the pledge at the International Conference Center Ogurube Layout, Umuahia during the eighth edition of the Abia Women August delegates conference AWADEC 2022, extolled Abia women for their unflinching support for his administration.
The Governor who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Sir Okey Ahaiwe commended his wife Dr. Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu for his laudable achievements and complementary roles to his government.
He described the theme of the programme ‘women in Abia: engineering, creating legacies as apt and catalyst for women development in the spheres of life.
In her speech, the wife of the Governor, Dr Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu said that the event serves as her valedictory Abia women August delegates conference.
She enumerated some achievements she had made within the period of her tenure to include fight against gender based violence, provision of shelter for the indigent people, empowerment, free Medicare, micro credit, among others.
The wife of the governor expressed hope that her legacies will out leave the present government as well as thanked Abia women and his husband for their support.
In his remarks, the chairman on the occasion, Chief Chris Odinaka Igwe represented by PDP governorship candidate’s running mate Mr Okey Igwe commended the wife of the governor for her giant strides in championing women issues.
He pledged his commitment to women development and empowerment.
Speaking, the keynote speaker, Professor Roseline Ndumele urged the women to develop their skills and make a difference in them stressing that women are making great progress in positions they occupy in society.
In her address, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Deaconess Rose Nna Urunta said that August women conference is an event which cuts across the geopolitical zones and helpswomen to deliberate on socioeconomic developments of their various communities
She called on Abia women to be agents of change through the programme in their localities.
Our government house correspondent Vincent Okogbuo reports that the event featured unveiling of the women legacy cake, March past, dance competition, and inspection of the delicacies of various local government areas by the wife of the governor while it attracted notable personalities across the state.
