The State PDP gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 general elections, Professor Uche Ikonne has described women as the bedrock of development.

Professor Ikonne who stated this while addressing the eighth edition of Abia Women August delegates Conference, AWADEC 2022, at the International Conference Centre Ogurube Layout Umuahia, noted that this year’s theme; “Abia Women: Engineering Development, Creating Legacies”, is apt given the extraordinary roles Abia women play in the development of the State.

The State PDP governorship flagbearer who spoke through his running mate, Chief Okey Igwe commended the wife of the Governor, Dr.  Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, for her numerous achievements for Abia women through her office.

He recalled the remarkable milk of human kindness, humility the Abia first lady has brought to bear in office as first lady and appreciated her supportive roles to her husband which has made the Governor to achieve so much for the State in the past seven years.

The State PDP gubernatorial candidate also extolled the wife of  the Governor for assisting many women overcome gender related challenges, her efforts at eradication of sickle cell through her foundation, provision of houses for indigent women as well as supporting women financially in their businesses.

He renewed his pledge to partner Abia women for greater development of Abia State if elected governor next year, and wished them a fruitful deliberation.

Professor Ikonne urged them to use their PVC wisely by supporting credible, experienced and competent candidates who can proffer solutions to challenges of government.
