Governor Ikpeazu commended Abia Heros past, former Governors and founding fathers for their remarkable efforts towards the creation, growth and development of the state since her creation 31years ago.
While noting that the likes of Late Dr Michael Okpara created in his era one of the fastest growing economies in Africa, he hoped for a better Abia in the days ahead, describing the development trajectory of Abia since 2015 as self-discovery.
The Governor noted that the peaceful and industrious nature of Abia stands her out among her contemporaries as a remarkable identity.
The Governor said that though, the state has not gotten to her expected destination,Abia is a work in progress, and described peace and security as the greatest achievement of Abia at 31.
While commending service chiefs and various security agencies in the state for their doggedness for the prevailing peace and security, noted that Abia as of today is one of the few states one can sleep with both eyes closed despite the precarious security challenge across the country.
He promised that the few security challenges being experienced around Umunneochi axis will soon be a thing of the past and urged security agencies in the state to remain resolute as the state government is committed in the struggle ahead.
The state chief executive who expressed his desire to perform the groundbreaking ceremony for the Enyimba Economic City also assured that he will complete the New government House before leaving office next year.
Governor Ikpeazu who used the occasion to present Staff of office to about 35 new traditional Rulers in the state, urged the traditional Rulers to be worthy ambassadors of the dormain and remain leading lights in the various communities.
The Governor further announced the renaming of the International Conference Centre Umuahia to Ochendo International Conference Centre in honour of his predecessor, Chief T. A Orji
Earlier, the acting Chairman Abia State Advisory Council, Sir Chikezie Wachuku called for the collective efforts of all to achieve a secure and safe Abia by being their brother’s keeper.
He used the forum to commend the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for his human and infrastructural development in the last 7 years especially, the provision of a Long Term Development Plan which spans from 2020-2050, which he said is the first comprehensive plan towards a systematic development of the state and urged successive administrations to ensure optimal utilization of the plan for the greater good of the State.
The event featured the cutting of the anniversary cake and presentation of merit award to deserving Abians for their selfless services to the State presentation of lecture on “A Competitive Abia Economy Using The Small And Medium Enterprises As A Pilot For Viral And Strong Abia Of The Future” by Dr. Chukwu Udensi the Head, Department of Management, ABSU was presented as well as the launch of two books – “The Torrents Of Testimonies: Voices From Abia State Nigeria and “Power With A Purpose”
