VC excited as US-based alumni raise funds to install solar system in Abia varsity.

The Vice-Chancellor, Abia State University, Uturu, Professor Onyemachi Ogbulu, has commended the ABSU Alumni Association (ABSUAA) North America  for its successful second annual convention and fund raising for the “Operation Light up ABSU with Solar Power” held in Potomac, Maryland United States.

In his address, Professor Ogbulu expressed delight to ABSUAA for inviting him for its second annual convention and fund raising, and assured of a sustained relationship with all ABSU Alumni Associations throughout his tenure.

The Vice Chancellor recalled the recent Annual General Meeting/Fund Raising Dinner for Tree planting project for ABSU in Abuja by Zenith Environmental and Social Protection Network (ZESPRONET) and now the ‘Operation Light up ABSU with Solar Power’ by ABSUAA, North America.

In his welcome address, President of the Association, Okechukwu Uguru thanked members for their commitment towards giving back to their alma-mater and used the forum to give awards of recognition to members of the Executive of ABSUAA.

Also speaking while kicking off the ‘Operation Light up ABSU with Solar Power’ the Chairman/Chief launcher of the fund raising Dinner, Dr. Boris Emeka Oji encouraged members to financially support the new project, reminding them of how they provided thirty-four computers to the University in 2018 and assured that ‘Operation Light up ABSU with Solar Power’ will also be achieved with the same commitment.

Dr. Boris, who is also the President, ZESPRONET, further enumerated some of his contributions to the development of ABSU in the last twelve years, and pledged to do more for the University.

Highlights of the event include lecture by the guest speaker, Professor Bond Anyaehie, Deputy Provost College of Medicine UNN, financial donations towards the project by members, as well as community work by some others within the city.
