Ukraine’s State nuclear energy Company Energoatom says a Deputy Head of the Russian occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, Valeriy Martynyuk has been kidnapped and detained by Russian forces.

Energoatam disclosed that Mr. Martynyuk who is a deputy director general for human resources at the nuclear plant, was seized yesterday and is being detained in an unknown location.

It said that Russian kidnappers were probably using methods of torture on Martynyuk to try and get information about staff at the Zaporizhzhia plant in order to force Ukrainian staff to work for Rosatom, the Russian State owned nuclear power supplier as soon as possible.

Energatom appealed to the Head of The International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi and World to take all possible measures for the immediate release of Martynyuk.

Reports said most of the Zaporizhzhia region, including the nuclear plant, have been under Russian control since the early days of Russia’s Invasion in February but, the capital of the region, Zaporizhzhia city, remains under Ukrainian control.
