The Office of the Secretary to the State Government has been identified as a critical hub of government.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Chris Ezem who stated this while presenting the 2023 Draft Budget Estimate of the office at the State Planning Commission conference room, maintained that the office is primarily responsible for effective coordination and monitoring of the implementation of government policies and programs across all MDAs in the State.
Mr. Ezem pointed out that the SSG’s office comprises four bureaus, two statutory Religious boards and the State Emergency Management Board, and enumerated some of the challenges of the office to include, inadequate funding, and office accommodation, lack of functional vehicles among others.
The SSG further made a case for an increase in the budgetary allocation for the office to accommodate other exigencies of duties being handled by the office.
He explained that the office is determined to coordinate and monitor the usage of government auditorium and conference centers with a view to generating revenue for government.
Also he disclosed that the office continue to partner NEMA for prompt and rapid intervention in an event of any natural disaster, engage in grassroot farming and food support programs, to improve food security among others.
The SSG commended the budget committee members for their commitment in ensuring that budget document is made available regularly to the Government.
Earlier in her remarks, the Chairman 2023 Budget committee and Executive Secretary, Abia State Planning Commission Dr(Mrs) Nnenna Chikezie said the budget is christened: “valedictory, Economic, Expansion and stability Budget, and expressed delight that all the Bureaus in the office of the SSG came to defend their budget.
She said that the committee will do the needful by ensuring that all the MDAs, will present realistic budget that will foster economic development and well being of the state and eulogized the SSG for his support and assistance to the present administration led by Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu in moving the state to an enviable height.
