The Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has urged Nigerian Army and other Security Agencies to complement the State Government’s efforts in providing succor to various communities in the State.
Dr. Ikpeazu who stated this during the official flag off of the exercise, Golden Dawn two held at the fourteen Brigade step up Headquarters Amaekpu Ohafia, Ohafia Local Government Area, expressed confidence that the exercise aimed at fostering the much needed civil military cooperation will also assist in flushing out criminal elements in the State.
The Governor represented by the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu charged them to observe laid down rules of engagement and code of conduct to avoid actions that may infringe on the rights of citizens and their communities.
He expressed optimism that the Agencies are capable of dealing with criminal elements disrupting the peace and tranquility required for economic development during the Golden Dawn two exercise, the yuletide seasons and electioneering period, however assured them of government’s support to enable them carryout their constitutional responsibilities.
In his address, the Commander, 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ohafia, Brig. Gen Adegoke Adetuji said the exercise is designed to promote conducive environment for businesses and other socio-economic activities as well as enhance the security of law abiding citizens during the Yuletide and electioneering period.
While explaining that the Army will collaborate with other Security Agencies in performing the exercise, Brig. General Adetuji added that the Exercise which also featured a Free Medical Outreach for the host Community, Amaekpu Ohafia, assured residents and visitors of their safety during and after the period.
In his remarks, the Traditional Ruler of Amaekpu Ohafia Community, Ezieogo Uduma Obuba Kalu, appreciated the Army Command for their security watch over the Community and advised Amaekpu residents and visitors to always cooperate with the Military Command in their quest to maintain peace and order.
Our Government House Correspondent, Mercy Kalu reports that the event which featured Special presentation to Governor Ikpeazu, official flag off ceremony, and inspection of the Medical Outreach, attracted the presence of the Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Chief Chidiebere Uwagwu, the Chairman Ohafia Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Igwe Ojike and Heads of Sister Security Agencies.
