ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY SEVEN POINT FIVE BILLION NAIRA 2023 ABIA APPROPRIATION BILL PRESENTED TO HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

The Governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has presented the 2023 Abia State Appropriation Bill of one hundred and fifty seven billion, five hundred and seventeen million, five hundred and four thousand, three hundred Naira before the state House of Assembly for consideration and passage.

Presenting the Appropriation Bill christened “Valedictory, Economic Expansion and Stability Budget” Governor Ikpeazu said that the budget which has an increase of six point nine-five percent on the 2022 Budget of the state has a recurrent expenditure of seventy five billion, forty four million, seven hundred and sixty-four thousand, four Hundred naira.`

The state Chief Executive noted that the budget with capital expenditure of eighty two billion, four Hundred and seventy-two million, seven hundred and thirty-nine thousand, nine hundred naira was prepared using the 2023-2025 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and fiscal strategy paper of the federal government.

Governor Ikpeazu said that the budget is designed to focus on the successful completion of ongoing programmes and projects as Government has released the last tranche of one point two billion naira for the completion of the new Government House among projects that have direct bearing on the people’s well-being.

While noting that the budget will enable Government consolidate the gains of the past years in the provision of Social amenities for the people , the state Governor noted it will pursue recovery by redirecting resources to improve on the production chain and add value to Products.

The Governor said that the budget provides measures to foster the security of lives and property by targeting the roots of communal violence, crime and other potential sources of insecurity, continue to promote good governance founded on competent and responsive public service with zero tolerance for corruption.

He noted that the budget also intend to build, maintain and expand infrastructure in water, electricity and road networks to accelerate economic growth and create job.

Responding, the Speaker of the state house of Assembly,  Chief Chinedum Orji while commending the Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for having done well in the past three years within the limit of resources at his disposal assured of their sustained support and cooperation to enable him finish well.

Chief Orji appreciated his colleagues for the privilege of being on the saddle as Speaker and for the their cooperation so far, noting that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has enjoyed the most peaceful House like his predecessor.

In their remarks, some members of the House including Chief Chikwendu Kalu, Mr Chukwudi Apugo, Chief Mike Ukoha among others said that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has laid a solid foundation upon which his successor will stand on and urged him to realize the vision of converting some higher institutions in the state to federal in line with his promise before leaving office.

The state PDP Chairman Dr Asiforo Okere, SSG Mr Chris Ezem, Chief of Staff to the Governor Chief Okey Ahaiwe, HOS  Sir Onyii Wamah, Commissioner for Information Dr Eze Chikamnayo, his finance counterpart Dr Aham Uko and host of other top Government functionaries witnessed the budget presentation.
