The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has embarked on the training of Northwest Journalists on conflict sensitive reporting ahead of 2023 general election.

Speaking at a one day workshop tagged “conflict-sensitive reporting and 2023 General Election for northwest Journalists” in Kano the National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education INEC, Festus Okoye,   noted that media is a critical stakeholder in political processes.

Mr. Okoye represented by the Deputy Director, Gender and inclusive INEC, Mr. Samuel Bassey disclosed that the workshop was to enhance participants’ skill and professionalism.

He pointed out that reporting election requires special skills and understanding of the centrality of Nigeria’s survival as a fledging democracy, and called on the media to avoid deliberate falsehood aimed at drawing traffic to sites, especially online media.
