The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mustapha Bala has commended Journalists in the country for the role they play in informing, educating and entertaining the public.
Mr. Bala who made the commendation when he received members of the Correspondence Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Abia State Council who paid him a courtesy visit in his office described Journalists as watchdogs of society as well as critical stakeholders in the job of protecting lives and property of the citizens.
He appealed to Journalists to always confirm any information brought to them domain before publication and decried the activities of the social media and online reporters which he said have polluted the media space.
Mr. Bala made it clear that he will always carry journalists along in the scheme of things, especially, Police operational activities and appreciated members of the group for coming to identify with him now that Christmas and general elections and Christmas are around the corner.
In his remark, the Chairman, Correspondence Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Abia State Council, Chief Obinna Ibeh, said the essence of the visit was to introduce members of his executive to the Commissioner as well as seek collaboration and synergy with the State Police Command.
Chief Ibeh who reminded the Commissioner of the 2023 general elections underscored the need for partnership between the Press and the Police to enhance their operations.
