Messi crowns career as Argentina beat France on penalties

Argentina have been crowned Champions of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 after defeating defending Champions France 4-2 on penalties in an Epic Final this evening.

France came from two goals down to draw level with Argentina in regulation time as the two teams also scored each other in extra time through Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe who had scored a brace each in regulation time to bring the scoreline to 3-3 before the shootouts.

It was an incredible night of drama and fluctuating fortunes, delivering one of the all-time great finals to cap a wonderful tournament this year in Qatar.

Correspondent CHIMERE ONYEMA reports that after his record 26th World Cup match, at the fifth and final time of asking, 35-year-old Lionel Messi finally claimed the trophy that he and his nation demanded, lifting him up alongside Diego Maradona after the country’s first soccer idol carried them to their emotional second triumph in 1986 following their first in 1978.
