Government says it will always support the Nigerian Legion, the Armed Forces, Paramilitary and other Security Agencies in the State.

The Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu made this known during the launch of the 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem Appeal Fund at Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia.

The Governor represented by his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu disclosed that he will continue to make the welfare of the State Chapter of the Nigerian Legion, top priority and eulogized them for ensuring the sustenance of peace and security in the State and the nation at large.  

He thanked God for the supreme sacrifices the country’s fallen heroes made to ensure that the nation remained safe and united and promised to contribute his quota to ensure that their sacrifice will not be in vain.

In her remarks, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Deaconess Nna Rose Urenta, who noted that the annual event is to complement the selfless sacrifices of the country’s gallant soldiers, especially the fallen heroes and   their loved ones, thanked all who made the occasion successful.

Contributing, the Chairman, State Nigerian Legion, Commander Ambrose Nnabugwu (Retired), who appreciated Governor Ikpeazu for his assistance, decried the financial challenges   facing the body, and appealed to the Federal Government to increase their welfare package.                             

In his goodwill massage, the Commander, 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Adegoke Adetuye, commended the cordial relationship existing between the Legion and the State Government and called for prayers for the gallant soldiers.

In a vote of thanks, the Director, Social, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Nnenna Onwuka,  thanked all who graced the occasion.

Correspondent, Sally Anyaso reports that the ceremony which attracted the presence of top government officials also featured decoration of the Governor’s representative with the 2023 Emblem and launch of the Emblem.
