Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has commended his wife, Dr. Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu for her remarkable contributions to the survival and sustenance of the livelihood of the rural women and the less privileged through her pet-project, the Vicar Hope Foundation.
The Governor who stated this during the public presentation of the book “Humility, Compassion and Service: The Nkechi Ikpeazu Story” and the Seventh Anniversary of the Vicar Hope Foundation, a pet project of the Governor’s wife held at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, described her various interventions as legendary.
Governor Ikpeazu while highlighting the various interventions carried out by the Vicar Hope Foundation, including women empowerment, healthcare delivery, building of houses for the indigent people, enhancement of livelihood of women, advocacy for genotype test, issues of violence against women among others, noted that the challenge of leadership is to do the right thing at all times.
The Governor noted that Abians and particularly, the less privileged would forever remember his wife for the impactful services she rendered, and stressed the need for the demystification of sickle cell anemia patients.
Dr Ikpeazu said that he is proud of the towering accomplishments of his wife and expressed gratitude to the Board of trustees and all the staff of Vicar Hope Foundation for the feat they have achieved.
In her address, the President Vicar Hope Foundation and Wife of the Governor, Dr. Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu said her greatest source of joy seeing the happiness on the faces of the beneficiaries whenever they receive assistance through the Vicar Hope Foundation, adding that the Foundation has recorded so many successes and promised to do more.
She thanked the Governor for his support in ensuring that she achieved her goal in life and the authors of her biography as well as partners of Vicar Hope Foundation.
The PDP Governorship Candidate Professor Uche Ikonne represented by his running mate Chief Okey Igwe described all that the wife of the Governor has done a demonstration of love for humanity and congratulated her on the milestone.
Reviewing the book Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) Abia State University Uturu Professor Ogbonna Onuoha stated that the choice of the title of the book was well made as it captured the person of the wife of the Governor as a virtuous, humble, compassionate and service-personified.
He described the two hundred and sixty-six pages book as factual and unbiased account of the person, character and activities of the Wife of the Governor, especially through her Foundation and noted that the book is an evident that behind a successful man is a good wife while recommending that the book be read by all and sundry.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman on the occasion, Dr. John Chikezie commended Dr.Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu for setting a standard in assisting her husband in achieving good governance.
He noted that the wife of the Governor has affected positively the lives of the public through her various interventions in cancer elimination awareness, sickle cell awareness, gender based advocacy and kindness extended to the poor and vulnerable, adding that her life could be summarized in humility, compassion and service as captured in the book written in her honour.
In an address on behalf of the Board of Trustees of Vicar Hope Foundation, Professor Kate Ndukauba , said the Board is happy to celebrate the milestone achieved by the President of the Foundation Dr Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu and assured that all their programmes at the Foundation have been designed with the elements of sustainability even beyond May this year.
Highlights of the event was the launch and presentation of GSM phones in support of the Vicar Hope Foundation/Tele Health partnership to drive the sickle cell support Network of Vicar Hope Foundation by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and the presentation of another book “Understanding Industrial Psychology” Co-written by Dr Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu and Uchenna Onyemaechi.
Our Government House correspondent Ezechukwu Adimoha reports that the event which featured presentation of the book by the Commissioner for Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Christopher Enweremadu, represented by Chief Okey Ahaiwe, attracted many dignitaries including the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu and his wife, the Minister of State for Science and Technology, Chief Henry Iko, Members of the state Executive Council, PDP State Chairman, Dr Asiforo Okere, the Head of Service, Sir Onyii Wamah among others.
