The State Government has charged petroleum stakeholders in the state to fast track the process of ensuring that petroleum products are made available to the public at government approved pump price.

The Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Chris Ezem who stated this during a meeting with major stakeholders in the petroleum sector on the way forward over the lingering price hike of petroleum products in the state, expressed worry over the situation which has caused untold hardship on residents.

Mr. Ezem appealed to the stakeholders not to be part of the process that will inflict pain on the masses especially as the elections are around the corner and assured of Government’s preparedness to ameliorate the suffering of residents.

Speaking earlier, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN Chairman, Aba Depot Unit, Mazi Oliver Okolo, attributed the cause of the hike to inability of NNPC to supply the needed quantity of petroleum products to marketers.

Also speaking, the Acting Depot Manager NNPC Aba, Salami Ajadi said the challenge in supplying the petroleum product to the state is due to the ongoing  rehabilitation work  at the pipeline from Port Harcourt to Aba Depot, adding that it will soon be over and normal supply will commence in the state.

The meeting attracted the presence of the Commissioner for Petroleum, Chief Eze Nwanganga and his Homeland Security Counterpart, Chief Sopuruchi Bekee.
